The site occupied by Muirend Playing Fields was impaired by historical chromium contamination, after decades of indiscriminate disposal from local chemical works. We assessed that groundwater, sediment and soil contamination called for the implementation of a remediation scheme.
Activities
- We constructed a six-metre deep slurry wall around the perimeter of the site.
- Nearby watercourses and culverts, approximately two kilometres in length, were desilted.
- We also undertook geotechnical clay capping across the site.
- Following this remediation, the reconstruction of natural grass and synthetic pitches could take place.
Outcome
We successfully completed the works in partnership with respected environmental and sports field consultants.
