King George V Playing Fields were identified as an area within Council ownership that needed remediation before the development of an amenity facility, extending Renfrewshire Council’s current quota of natural grass pitches and incorporating a complex of synthetic pitches for local use. This project encompassed the installation of a children’s play area and Colorado pitch games area for teenagers.
Activities
-
We took into account that the site, previously part of Abbotsinch Airport, was essentially hardstanding comprised of runway sections, aircraft hanger foundations and floors. Risk of contamination was prevalent throughout the works, exacerbated by the uncertainty of aviation fuel contamination.
-
Our construction works involved removing the existing hardstanding and importing capping layers and topsoil to complete the remediation process.
Outcome
The works were constructed in effective partnership with Renfrewshire Council and were completed on time and to budget.
