The Glasgow Housing Association Environment Improvements Works Project is part of a five-year investment programme of renovations and improvements to the Associations local housing stock. This is the final stage of the housing stock improvements programme and involves residential gardens, communal areas and open spaces.
Activities
- Our Project Partnering Contract involves regular consultation and liaison with GHA management, local housing association committees, housing officers, homeowners and tenants, with our company providing a single point design and build service for the works.
- The contract includes a mixture of environmental improvement and maintenance schemes, involving 22 local housing associations within an area covering 200km2 on the south side of Glasgow.
- Year 3 works (2007) have comprised 28 individual maintenance and improvement projects. These extensive multi-disciplinary construction works include slabbing and paving, kerbing, fencing, brickwork and wall construction. In addition, soft landscaping works involve turfing, planting, creation of new shrub beds, shrub maintenance and tree planting.
Outcome
Our activities will continue through 2009. The programme is part of the wider Neighbourhood Renewal Strategy that aims to maximize jobs and training gains for Glasgow residents arising from this investment activity.
Our Training Division is providing a minimum 20% new trainee entrants to the GHA environmental works programme, with the intention of creating a 100% locally based workforce after the five-year contract period.
