The Dynamic Earth Project, located at the site of the William Younger Building on Holyrood Road, was designed with a visitor reception area on the roof of the existing building.
Activities
- As external works contractors, our work involved waterproofing the existing building frontage and constructing curved 10m-high retaining walls to accommodate structural fill, which allowed construction of a stone-clad concrete amphitheatre to give access to the upper level.
- In addition to the structural works, entrance roads were constructed and paved in natural stone, with an entertainment area formed within the entrance area.
- Our scope included the creation of a Mall linking the existing carriageway through Holyrood Park with Holyrood Road, which incorporates a 500m carriageway and roundabout, constructed while accommodating existing traffic flows.
Outcome
The works were completed on time to allow this successful Millennium project to open.
