The Broomielaw Public Realm Project was the largest streetscape contract to be awarded by Glasgow City Council and involved the upgrading of several streets within the prestigious International Financial Services District of Glasgow.
Activities
- We completely reconstructed the existing footpaths on James Watt Street, York Street, Robertson Street, Oswald Street, Argyle Street and Broomielaw, all of which were surfaced with high quality natural stone.
- Three carriageways were wholly reconstructed and two were resurfaced with new asphalt surfacing.
- James Watt Street was reconstructed with granite setts, while coloured aggregate was used within the asphalt surfacing in Robertson Street and York Street.
- Parking bays were reconstructed with granite cubes.
- The street lighting was replaced with bespoke brushed aluminium lighting columns and decorative lighting features were installed in several locations.
- High quality stainless steel and granite street furniture was installed extensively throughout.
Outcome
The International Financial Services District houses several prominent institutions and the works had to be completed with minimum disruption to these premises. In addition, major public utilities services were present within the existing road and footpath network and it was essential that the works were completed without disturbance.
